Annual ceremony is open to the public
WHAT: 2018 Burial of the Ashes Ceremony, a commemoration of the contributions of body donors to the educational mission of The University of Texas Health Science Center (now called UT Health San Antonio)
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. today (May 2)
WHERE: Memorial Park, Greehey Academic & Research Campus of UT Health San Antonio, 8403 Floyd Curl Drive (78229); media call Will Sansom in case of inclement weather
WHO: Students from several UT Health San Antonio schools will discuss how anatomical studies enhanced their education. These students will thank families of the donors for their loved ones’ altruistic gifts. Faculty members also will speak, including Omid Rahimi, Ph.D., director of the Human Anatomy Program at UT Health San Antonio and UT Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Cell Systems & Anatomy; Robert Hromas, M.D., FACP, dean of the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine; William Dodge, D.D.S., dean of the School of Dentistry; and David Henzi, Ed.D., associate dean for academic and student affairs, School of Health Professions.
VISUALS: Bagpipers will begin the ceremony. An AirLife flyover will take place, depending on availability. A military honor guard will present the U.S. flag in honor of veteran donors. Faculty and student singers from UT San Antonio will perform.
