Dr. Jan Patterson, a professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UT Health San Antonio, shares the lessons she learned during the 2003 SARS outbreak.
Dr. Patterson is an expert on how to prepare for infectious disease outbreaks. In 2003, she was among those who prepared San Antonio for the possibility of an epidemic. She also volunteered in Canada during the deadly wave of the SARS virus in 2003. She trained workers on infection control techniques at a Toronto hospital.
