TikTok restricted from state-issued devices

TikTok, the short-form video-sharing app, has been under tremendous scrutiny by the federal government due to security concerns, and yesterday Gov. Greg Abbott issued a directive to all state agencies to immediately ban downloading or using TikTok on state-issued devices.

Effective immediately, pursuant to the governor’s directive, please suspend any activity on TikTok accounts that  house on government-issued devices including cell phones, laptops, tablets and desktop computers.

Further guidance is pending from the state that will inform a revised policy about the use of TikTok on personal devices prior to Feb. 15, 2023.

For any questions, please contact Michael Schnabel, chief information security officer and assistant vice president of infrastructure and operations.
