Tips for managing online classes

Online class tips

Do the work

Without the regularity of meeting in person, online classes can fall by the wayside. Attending every virtual lecture or watching each recorded session goes a long way towards staying up to date and getting things done on time.

Manage your time wisely

Effective time management is key to staying on top of virtual coursework. Many health care programs require a significantly larger workload than what is required by other fields. Our students recommended using a planner to track due dates and make to-do lists, and scheduling study times and designated study breaks throughout the day.

Change things up

After the novelty of life and school being based from home wears off, sitting in the same place staring at the same screen every day can become tiring. Switching up your work location can provide a stimulating change of pace and keep you from wearing out your normal routine. One student recommended printing off flashcards to take a break from staring at the screen.

Utilize technology

By this point, we are familiar with virtual meetings and conference calls. These technologies can be key in helping keep students connected to one another and to fight feelings of isolation. Many of our students recommended using teleconferencing apps such as Zoom, FaceTime, Duo, or Discord to host interactive virtual study sessions with their classmates.

Eat well and stay hydrated

Proper hydration and nutrition are not only great for overall health, but can also help improve focus!

Eliminate distractions

The constant buzzing of a phone or noise from a TV can keep you from staying focused. Turning off the TV or leaving your phone on silent, or even in another room, can help eliminate distractions. You can use your designated study breaks as the time to catch up on missed messages or watch a quick episode of your favorite show.
