A federal study out this morning shows that after spiking for the past decade, rates of childhood asthma are leveling off or even declining, News Radio 1200 WOAI’s Michael Board reports.
The study by the National Center for Health Statistics say the rate of children with asthma peaked in 2009 at 9.7%, but since then have leveled off.
But Dr. Pamela Wood a pediatrician at U.T. Medicine in San Antonio and an expert on childhood asthma, says the study shows asthma cases continuing to increase among low income children, which she suspects is due to environmental factors.
