Jennifer Sharpe Potter, Ph.D., M.P.H., associate professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Anesthesiology (pain medicine), and Barbara J. Turner, M.D., MSED, MACP, professor of medicine, will discuss the latest advances in pain management from two varied perspectives of science and medicine.

With a primary research interest in co-occurring chronic pain and substance use disorders, Dr. Potter’s current research–utilizing combined behavioral and medication-based approaches–focuses on the prevention and treatment of opioid use disorders.

Dr. Turner is a practicing general internist and health services researcher focusing on vulnerable populations and health disparities using administrative databases to evaluate care. She has more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and editorials on varied topics, including chronic pain/opioid use; substance abuse; primary care practice redesign; and patient adherence to care.
