University community shows its pride during Spirit Week 2023

The Spurs Coyote visited the Orthopaedics and Podiatry team Friday, Oct. 20.

The university community was abuzz during UT Health San Antonio’s Spirit Week Oct. 16–20 as faculty, staff, students and residents enjoyed a fun-filled week replete with free T-shirt giveaways, the President’s Forum and visits from The University of Texas at San Antonio’s and Spurs’ mascots.

There were also fun events to reflect the university’s team spirit and opportunities to win a variety of prizes.

Throughout the week, 150 prizes were distributed, ranging from computer bags and handheld portable speakers to tickets to UTSA’s homecoming game Oct. 28, Spurs memorabilia and tickets to the Nov. 18 Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies game.

UT Health San Antonio T-shirts were distributed at the beginning of Spirit Week. A last-chance T-shirt pickup is scheduled for Nov. 8.

Spirit Week kicked off on Monday and Tuesday with the distribution of 7,500 complimentary T-shirts reflecting this year’s Spirit Week theme: People. Power. Partnership. Last chance to pick up Spirit Week T-shirt is Nov. 8

For those who were unable to pick up a free T-shirt during Spirit Week, another distribution date has been set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the breezeway between the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and the Academic and Administration Building. The remaining T-shirts are limited in size and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. One person can pick up shirts for multiple people by providing their badge numbers.

President’s Forum

UT Health San Antonio President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, addressed a full-capacity audience at the President’s Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

On Wednesday, a full-capacity audience joined UT Health San Antonio President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, for the President’s Forum. During the forum, Henrich said the university is heading into an exciting new era of growth in multiple arenas, from the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital and the opening of the UT School of Public Health San Antonio to new and innovative facilities and partnerships benefiting the community. Fun with mascots

On Thursday, Oct. 19, UTSA Mascot Rowdy the Roadrunner and UTSA cheerleaders gathered on the lawn outside the Academic Learning and Teaching Center for a football toss.

On Thursday, UTSA Mascot Rowdy the Roadrunner and UTSA cheerleaders gathered on the lawn outside the Academic Learning and Teaching Center for a football toss and the campus community showed its team spirit for the university’s Roadrunner partners at UTSA by wearing their team colors – orange and blue.

On Friday, Spirit Week culminated with a show of Spurs support as the campus community wore Spurs attire or their team colors and the Coyote — the official mascot of the San Antonio Spurs — visited the Medical Arts and Research Center join university’s expert care teams in sports medicine and other specialties.
