The physician practice of UT Health San Antonio took a huge step forward Feb. 22 with the dedication of UT Health Hill Country, just off Interstate 10 near Boerne.

The 19,000-square-foot building will offer a comprehensive array of services, including primary care, orthopaedics, radiology, physical therapy, urology, behavioral health and lab services.

In remarks prior to the ribbon cutting, William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP, president of UT Health, said the new clinic represented a departure from the traditional  model of an academic health center located in an urban setting only. It’s “no small feat,” he added, “doing it on our own.”

“We hope this is just the beginning,” Dr. Henrich said. “We hope to (open clinics) more and more around the city.”

Carlos A. Rosende, M.D., executive director of the physicians of UT Health San Antonio, spoke about the broad range of health services that will be offered at UT Health Hill Country. He noted that a unique aspect of the clinic is that it is linked to the more than 700 physicians in 120 specialties in the overall UT Health physician practice.

Alamo Architects designed and Bartlett Cocke General Contractors constructed the building, which includes exam rooms, conference rooms, physician offices, waiting rooms and a full-service imaging center with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT scan technology and general X-ray facilities.

UT Health Hill Country is at 25723 Old Fredericksburg Road in Boerne, (exit 550 – Ralph Fair Road). It will open for patient appointments on March 6.
