UT Health San Antonio Appoints New Chief of Staff

SAN ANTONIO, August 9, 2023 – The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) continues to evolve with the appointment of Kathryn Keeton, Ph.D., as vice president and chief of staff for UT Health San Antonio.

As vice president and chief of staff, Dr. Keeton will work with external community partners and build strong relationships across the organization to encourage innovation and advance the university’s strategic priorities. This position will work very closely with the senior leadership team to help organize, focus and implement the university’s broad strategic work, and manage the day-to-day functioning of the Office of the President. Dr. Keeton assumes the role following the retirement of Mary DeLay, MBA, who served the university for 33 years.

“Dr. Keeton will be an incredible contributor to the senior leadership team in her critical leadership role as chief of staff,” said William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, president of UT Health San Antonio. “She brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge about inner workings of higher education, which will serve our community well.”

Dr. Keeton comes into this role at UT Health San Antonio having served as the senior executive director for the Center for Professional Excellence in the Alvarez College of Business and as a professor of practice for UTSA. In this role she oversaw the Executive MBA program and all executive education programs offered through the College of Business. As a professor of practice, Dr. Keeton instructed undergraduate and graduate students in courses including Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Professional Development, Building Successful Teams and Leadership. Prior to joining UTSA, Dr. Keeton spent eight years at NASA overseeing cross-functional projects for the Human Health & Performance Directorate. Dr. Keeton has more than 20 years’ experience in leadership, strategic management and professional development in a variety of industries including higher education, aerospace, health care, and oil and gas.

Dr. Keeton received her bachelor’s degree from UT Austin. She earned both her master’s degree and Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston. Dr. Keeton is a licensed psychologist, a published author of numerous scientific papers and reviews and is a national presenter on organizational psychology.
