UT Health San Antonio collecting protective gear for health care providers Tuesday, Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO (March 23, 2020) — UT Health San Antonio is working to support San Antonio’s medical  and health care providers by collecting much-needed supplies of protective gear from the public.

“We expect these supplies will be critically needed by front-line health care workers treating a surge of COVID-19 patients in the coming weeks,” said Ruth Berggren,  M.D., professor of medicine and director of the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics in the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. She also serves as Bexar County’s health care adviser during this epidemic.

Needed supplies

The community is encouraged to donate the following supplies:

– N-95 respirator masks and other face masks, including surgical masks, and masks used by painters, carpenters and hobbyists.

– Medical or disposable gloves.

– Eye protection goggles, but no swim goggles, please.

– Face shields.

– Thermometers.

Original/unopened items are preferred, but not required; however, please do not donate used gloves or masks.

Drop-off location

These items may be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25, at UT Health San Antonio, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, 78229. Please go to the entry station near the intersection of Floyd Curl and Medical Drive where you will be directed to the drop-off location.
