UT Health San Antonio invited to participate in annual march honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 16

In recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 16, the UT Health San Antonio campus will be closed and students, faculty, staff, family and friends are invited to participate in the City of San Antonio 36th annual Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration.

The march — which attracts more than 300,000 participants annually and is considered the largest in the country — will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16, at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy at 3501 Martin Luther King Drive, and end at Pittman-Sullivan Park at 1101 Iowa St.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the 2023 theme is “Together We Can Be The Dream.”

UT Health will sponsor a chartered bus to transport participants to and from the march. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Reservations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. Participants are welcome to bring a guest with a limit of two guests per person. To sign up and participate, please use this online form.

Attendees are encouraged to wear a purple “Everything it Takes” UT Health San Antonio T-shirt to reaffirm UT Health’s commitment to a robust and unified community. Those opting to use their own transportation, can look for UT Health San Antonio’s signage and banner to join the group after arriving at the MLK Academy (3501 Martin Luther King Drive).
