UT Health San Antonio kicks off inaugural XFL season as San Antonio Brahmas’ exclusive sports medicine partner

UT Health San Antonio proudly announces it is the official sports medicine provider of the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.

Led by UT Health San Antonio’s orthopaedic physicians Katherine Bartush, MD and Ken O. Kenneth-Nwosa, MD, the medical team includes Caitlyn Mooney, MD, Thomas DeBerardino, MD and Philip Jacobs, MD.

“We are excited to have this partnership with the San Antonio Brahmas,” said Katherine Bartush, MD, sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery at UT Health San Antonio. “As we kick off the inaugural XFL season in San Antonio, we look forward to serving our sports community and delivering high-quality care to our athletes from the collegiate to the professional levels.”

Other UT Health San Antonio specialties available for game day include anesthesiologists, rehabilitation medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, primary care physicians, emergency medicine, dentists, ophthalmologists, otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat) providers and athletic trainers. Each provider is focused on the health of the athletes and their safe recovery.

“Our winning team of specialists is trained and ready to respond,” said Ken O. Kenneth-Nwosa, MD, primary care sports medicine at UT Health San Antonio. “The game plan is to meet each player’s medical needs and prepare them to succeed on and off the field.”

In addition to being exclusive medical partners for the Brahmas, UT Health San Antonio’s orthopaedic providers currently serve as medical partners for the University of Texas at San Antonio Athletics and Soccer Central.

The XFL is a professional American football league consisting of eight teams located across the United States in various sized markets. The San Antonio Brahmas is a new football team based in San Antonio. The team is led by head coach Hines Ward, a two-time Super Bowl champion, former Pittsburgh Steeler and the NFL’s all-time leading receiver.

The Alamodome hosted its first Brahmas game on Sunday, February 19 to a crowd of more than 24,000 fans. A total of five home games will be played in San Antonio. The next home game is scheduled for Sunday, March 19. The league also announced the Alamodome will host the championship game in May.
