SAN ANTONIO, April 6, 2021 – The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, known as UT Health San Antonio, will build a major community outpatient center on the Park West Campus of The University of Texas at San Antonio, bringing much-needed primary and specialty care, and surgical services, to that area’s growing population.
The approximately 80,000-square-foot project is critical to a strategy of expanding UT Health San Antonio’s clinical practice – UT Health Physicians – to the greater community in high-demand areas. To be located near the southeast corner of Loop 1604 and Kyle Seale Parkway on the city’s northwest side, the center is expected to be completed by summer 2023. The center will be named UT Health Park West.
“We are excited to bring our comprehensive health care services to this growing community,” said Dr. William L. Henrich, president of UT Health San Antonio. “Making world-class patient care accessible to San Antonians is a primary objective. Our new medical center will incorporate the latest evidence-based medicine, delivered by distinguished clinicians.”
The center offers more convenient access to the health science center’s physicians and clinicians, and its leading-edge, high-quality health care services. Those will include primary care and specialties such as sports medicine; physical therapy; physical medicine and rehabilitation; gynecology; gastrointestinal medicine; ear, nose and throat treatment; and ophthalmology.
Services offered will include ambulatory surgery, and convenient imaging services including MRI, CT scan and ultrasound. The center will also provide the latest diagnostic pathology laboratory tests.
“This new facility is a major strategic undertaking for UT Health San Antonio,” said Dr. Carlos Rosende, executive director of UT Health Physicians. “We are expanding our integrated health services to another growing area of San Antonio, bringing a series of specialty services, and surgical and procedural capabilities, beyond the medical center to better serve the community and the increasing number of primary care patients and families we serve in that growing area.”
UT Health San Antonio will own and operate the center, to be built on land owned by UTSA. The partners are entering into a ground lease for the site, with planning and design to begin in the next several weeks.
