UT Health San Antonio wins ‘Best Company Culture’ award from Comparably

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) has earned a “Best Company Culture” award from Comparably, an employer recruitment, culture and branding site, out of tens of thousands of large organizations based on real-time feedback from current employees over 12 months.

The institution is the only San Antonio-based name on the nationwide list of the top 100 highest-rated employers for company culture and with more than 500 employees, and one of only 14 in Texas. Others include such notables as Adobe, Uber, Workday, ADP, Netflix, AT&T, IBM, Baylor Scott & White Health and Fidelity Investments. UT Health San Antonio, which employs more than 8,500, ranks 86th overall.

The award is based on questions in 16 core culture metrics, from compensation and career growth to leadership and work environment.

“This award is fitting recognition to honor the unique, mission-focused culture we have at our university,” said Andrea Marks, chief operating officer of UT Health San Antonio.  “Our employees are dedicated to our missions of education, health care, research and community and show their commitment every day in their hard work and passion in support of these important missions. We are all proud of the culture we have built at this university, and it is thanks to our amazing employees.”

This marks the fourth award UT Health San Antonio has received from Comparably, after receiving “Best Company for Diversity” (December 2022), “Best Company Outlook” (March 2023) and “Best Company Perks & Benefits” (September 2023).

This set of Comparably Awards are derived from sentiment ratings provided by employees who anonymously rated their employers on Comparably.com during November 2022-November 2023.

Rankings were determined based on a series of questions in yes/no, true/false, 1-10 scale, and multiple-choice format. The answer to each question was given a numerical score and then compared to companies of similar size.

There were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination required. To qualify, large employers must have met a minimum of 75 employee participants, with additional weight given to companies with more employee participation relative to their company size.

The final data set was compiled from 15 million ratings across 70,000 U.S. companies.
