UT Health San Antonio’s chief of podiatry honored with induction into Podiatric Hall of Fame

 SAN ANTONIO, April 2, 2025Lee C. Rogers, DPM, chief of podiatry and clinical associate professor of orthopaedics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio), has been inducted into Podiatry Management’s Podiatric Hall of Fame, a highly prestigious honor as a lifetime achievement award in the field of podiatric medicine.

Inductees are selected through a voting process by a survey sent to the profession. The selection is based on the physician’s significant lasting contributions in podiatric medicine. The process involves recognizing individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation and influence in advancing the profession.

Rogers’ education and training in podiatric medicine

Known for his work in diabetic foot care and prevention, Rogers’ career spans more than 20 years in podiatric medicine. Rogers is a graduate of Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Rogers completed his residency in podiatric medicine and surgery at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers of New York and fellowship at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. He has authored 150 published papers, books and book chapters on limb salvage and policy and practice. Rogers has delivered more than 500 lectures worldwide.

Leadership at UT Health San Antonio

In 2021, Rogers joined UT Health San Antonio as the chief of podiatry and was appointed the Louis T. Bogy Endowed Professor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery for his distinguished record of professional accomplishments.

Rogers has focused his work on preventing amputations in diabetes foot care and limb salvage. Together with his team of specialists, they provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to reduce complications before they start by integrating advanced wound care techniques, personalized treatment plans and cutting-edge technology.

The induction into the Hall of Fame is a nod to the institution’s position as a leader in podiatric education and research, reinforcing the program’s credibility and influence within the medical community.

An exemplary leader, Rogers also served as president of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine from 2021 to 2023. He played a key role in creating a certificate of added qualification program and drafting the Board’s guidelines on hospital and surgical privileging for podiatrists. He is currently the vice president of the International Federation of Podiatry and the associate editor of the Diabetic Foot Section for the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association.
