Sixth facility in Texas to meet strict criteria

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 14, 2020) – Superior HealthPlan has named UT Health San Antonio’s Wellness 360 pediatric practice a Superior HealthPlan Foster Care Center of Excellence.

The recognition means that Wellness 360 has met more than 60 criteria, including quality improvement initiatives, program processes and staff requirements, in order to provide care for children and youth in foster care in the San Antonio area.

Wellness 360 has partnered closely with Superior to complete requirements to offer health care that meets the Texas Department of Family & Health Care Services criteria through its 3 in 30 program. This initiative helps caregivers and caseworkers get foster children the care they need faster. It is composed of a medical exam within three days of entering conservatorship, Texas Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS 2.0) Comprehensive (Child Welfare) Assessment within 30 days, and Texas Health Steps medical exam, an Early and Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment, within 30 days.

“For the past few years, Superior has been proud to recognize high-performing providers as Centers of Excellence,” said Lorraine Martinez, vice president of Foster Care at Superior. “The providers that receive this designation have met very high standards, and we’re proud to continue to expand this program across Texas with the recent designation for the UT Health San Antonio Wellness 360 pediatric practice.”

School of Nursing Dean Eileen T. Breslin, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, said,“We are pleased to receive this recognition from Superior Health. We are uniquely qualified to be a center of excellence due to the specialized services we offer and our perspective as health care professionals focused on holistic and comprehensive care.”

Superior offers STAR Health, a Medicaid managed care program serving children and youth in foster care. Superior is the only health plan to offer STAR Health and covers children and youth in foster care in all 254 counties in Texas. Launched in 2017, Superior’s Center of Excellence initiative will now have six centers of excellence in Texas. Wellness 360 is the second center of excellence in South Texas and the only nurse practitioner-led and managed clinic in the state to receive this designation.

Wellness 360 provides primary and specialized care for adults and children, and is open to the public. The pediatric practice offers specialized care in behavioral health, including psychotherapy and medication management. Care providers and staff have training in trauma-informed care.

The clinic is located in the School of Nursing on UT Health San Antonio’s Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus at 7703 Floyd Curl. To learn more about the services offered or to make an appointment, visit https://wellness360.uthealthsa.org/services/pediatric-health/ or call (210 ) 567-2788.
