UT Health Science Center graduation ceremonies set for May 20, 21 and 22

Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Friday, May 20, 4 p.m.
Health Science Center Auditorium, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive

Commencement speaker:

• Cary W. Cooper, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Cooper received his Ph.D. from Rice University in 1965 and holds membership in the Endocrine Society, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the American Physiological Society, and the International Bone and Mineral Society. He has authored and co-authored more than 180 scientific papers.

School of Allied Health Sciences

Saturday, May 21, 9 a.m.
Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University, 715 Stadium Drive

Commencement speaker:

• Dallas Fees, a former patient who received respiratory care from a student. He has been a guest instructor for the respiratory care program at the Health Science Center and is a client of the Health Science Center Low Vision Center.

Dental School

Saturday, May 21, 2 p.m.
Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University, 715 Stadium Drive

Commencement speaker:

• Risé L. Lyman, D.D.S., clinical associate professor in the department of general dentistry. She is a 1985 graduate of the Dental School and works in private practice. She chaired the 2002 Texas Dental Association meeting and is also the past-president of the Dental School Alumni Association.

School of Medicine

Sunday, May 22, 9 a.m.
Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University, 715 Stadium Drive

Commencement speaker:

• Carlos Pestana, M.D., Ph.D., professor emeritus in the department of surgery. Dr. Pestana joined the Health Science Center in 1968 when the doors to the School of Medicine first opened and taught every class during the school’s three decades. Dr. Pestana has chaired the School of Medicine admissions committee, served on the National Board of Medical Examiners, and written books including a diet book and a book of encouragement for rejected medical school applicants.

School of Nursing

Sunday, May 22, 2 p.m.
Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University, 715 Stadium Drive

Commencement speaker:

• Bill Rasco, president and CEO of the Greater San Antonio Hospital Council, which represents more than 125 hospitals and heath care organizations in the South Central Texas Region. He is also executive director of the Greater San Antonio Healthcare Foundation and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
