UT Health Science Center School of Dentistry celebrates 45 years at May 8 gala; honors three of its stars

WHAT: The School of Dentistry at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio will honor its 45th anniversary with a gala tonight, celebrating its proud tradition of national reputation and achievements in education, research and clinical care.

WHO: Bill Dodge, D.D.S., dean of the School of Dentistry, will pay tribute to three honorees:

• James Summitt, D.D.S., M.S., a longtime teaching faculty member who has emphasized providing restorative care based on scientific evidence;
• Maria Lopez Howell, D.D.S., an outstanding alumna who, in addition to her successful San Antonio practice, has been involved in many dental leadership positions. She served from 1998 to 2014 as host of the American Dental Association’s “Dental Minute,” a series of educational public service announcements on TV and radio.
• Dr. Jeffery Feingold, D.D.S., M.S.D., founder, president and chief executive officer of MCNA Dental, a premier dental benefits administrator that provides service to state agencies and managed care organizations for Medicaid, CHIP and Medicare members.

NOTES: The School of Dentistry has a longstanding national reputation, and graduates about 100 dentists each year.
