VPN software not compatible with macOS 11 Big Sur

The VPN software, Global Protect, is currently not compatible with Apple’s new operating system upgrade macOS 11 Big Sur. All faculty and staff are asked to show caution and hold off on upgrading for a few months.

If users are currently using Dell Data Protection Encryption (DDPE), that is also not currently compatible with the new macOS. DDPE can be removed from Macs, however, this will require full decryption and re-encryption with FileVault.

If a user has already upgraded to macOS 11 Big Sur and requires VPN access, the system will have to be backed up and re-imaged back to macOS 10.15 Catalina. If you need assistance with a backup/re-image or removal of DDPE, please contact the Service Desk at 210-567-7777, Option 1.
