Berggren selected to lead medical humanities-ethics center

Ruth E. Berggren, M.D., a compassionate hero who for days cared for the poor, disenfranchised and uninsured of New Orleans in extreme conditions after Hurricane Katrina, has been appointed interim director of the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine.


Hillis is new chair of medicine at UT Health Science Center

L. David Hillis, M.D., a widely published and respected academic physician and administrator in Dallas, today was named chairman of the Department of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. William L. Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P., dean of the School of Medicine and vice president for medical affairs at the Health Science Center, announced the recruitment, which culminated an extensive national search.





Ramirez, Mulrow elected to Institute of Medicine

The National Academies, independent advisers to the nation on science, engineering and medicine, today announced the election of Amelie G. Ramirez, Dr.P.H., and Cynthia D. Mulrow, M.D., M.Sc., of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies.
