Barshop Institute director to receive aging society’s top award

Arlan G. Richardson, Ph.D., who directs the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction from the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR).

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, close on the heels of the annual Fiesta in San Antonio, held its own Fiesta-style ceremony today to recognize the generosity of Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long and name the university’s original San Antonio campus for them.



MicroCT of skeleton can ID even the subtlest birth defects

A technique called microscopic X-ray computed tomography (microCT) is affording scientists the ability to visualize even the subtlest birth defects in prenatal and postnatal bats, mice, opossums and primates, which one day may lead to new understandings about human birth defects, said Charles Keller, M.D., of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
