Dr. Amelie Ramirez wins prestigious Komen cancer award

Dr. Amelie Ramirez, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and director of outreach and health care disparities at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, has been named a “2007 Professor of Survivorship” for her outstanding contributions to breast cancer survivorship by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a worldwide network of breast cancer survivors and activists.






Estrogen inhibitors likely to serve as cervical cancer treatments, study suggests

Landmark evidence suggests estrogen may be one of the causative agents in cervical cancer, according to a research team at the Health Science Center. The results, published in the Dec. 1 issue of Cancer Research, raise the possibility that estrogen inhibitors could be used as a potential line of therapy to treat cervical cancer.
