Dental School, School of Medicine rank 2nd in U.S. in Hispanic grads

Both the Dental School and the School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio ranked second in the country in the number of Hispanics obtaining graduate professional degrees after the 2004-2005 academic year, according to rankings reported this summer by the Virginia-based magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.




HSC Dental School receives $2 million from an individual

In the wake of rising education costs, the Dental School of the Health Science Center received the largest gift from an individual to a dental school in Texas—$2 million from the estate of Dr. Stacy Wendell Clapp Jr., a former adjunct faculty member of the UT Health Science Center. The official presentation was Friday, Nov. 18, at the Omni Hotel as part of the Dental School’s 35th Anniversary Hollers Lecture and Gala Event.

Learning the organs and systems of the human body on a computer screen instead of peering down a microscope … “flying around” an organ to see it from all vantage points … interpreting the squiggles and lines of an ultrasound examination on a portable screen … using keystrokes to control treatment after a simulated patient faints in a dental chair.
