An over-the counter herbal supplement derived from the Amur cork tree (Phellodendron amurense) killed a high percentage of cultured prostate cancer cells in studies conducted at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dental School, School of Medicine rank 2nd in U.S. in Hispanic grads

Both the Dental School and the School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio ranked second in the country in the number of Hispanics obtaining graduate professional degrees after the 2004-2005 academic year, according to rankings reported this summer by the Virginia-based magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.

Health Science Center establishes department of epidemiology and biostatistics

William Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P., dean of the Health Science Center’s School of Medicine and vice president for medical affairs, and Karen Fields, M.D., president and CEO at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC), are pleased to announce that the Health Science Center and the CTRC have jointly recruited one of the nation’s outstanding oncologists, Tyler Curiel, M.D., to lead the San Antonio Cancer Institute (SACI).
