UT Health med student chosen for unique ethics program

Spencer Cope of The University of Texas Health Science Center, now called UT Health San Antonio,, is one of 15 medical students chosen by the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) to participate in a two-week program in Germany and Poland this summer, which uses the conduct of physicians in Nazi-occupied Europe as a way to reflect on medical ethics today.

An estimated 200 health careers students at McCollum High School on the South Side listened attentively as Dr. Ronald Rodriguez spoke about his origins and the perseverance it took to leave behind his childhood friends in South Texas to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Rodriguez is professor of urology and interim dean of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.

On National Doctors’ Day, the doctor is in — and it’s show-and-tell time at area schools! Physicians from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (now called UT Health San Antonio) will make house calls to the schools to share what attracted them to medicine.


UT Health San Antonio to begin gynecologic cancer group April 19

UT Health San Antonio™ is initiating a monthly group for women with gynecologic cancers. The meetings will be held 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning April 19. The group will meet at the Medical Arts & Research Center, 8300 Floyd Curl Dr., in Conference Room B on the first floor.

Cancer survivors fun run/walk set for March 25

The Cancer Therapy & Research Center of UT Health San Antonio™ is holding a 2.6-mile fun run/walk for cancer survivors, family members, friends and the community. Called “Give Cancer the Boot,” the event will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the CTRC, 7979 Wurzbach Road.
